Dairy Industry Petitions FDA to Add Aspartame

Have you been watching the news lately? If so, you’ve probably heard the controversies over Kraft macaroni and cheese or you’ve seen the petition against Kraft for adding unnecessary chemicals and colorings to their macaroni and cheese on Change.org. The sad truth about this situation is that this concern is not new. For years, the natural and alternative communities have been aware of these dangers. You’ll realize that there are many hidden dangers lurking in a lot of our food supply. At this point in time, foods labeled USDA organic are protected from using these dangerous, artificial ingredients. This is one reason I advocate the consumption of organic foods. And if you think you can just read labels on non-organic foods to avoid harmful ingredients, think again. Big businesses often petition the FDA to find ways to weasel additives into foods even without listing them on the label. The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) are currently asking the FDA to alter the definition of “milk” to include chemical sweeteners such as aspartame and sucralose without listing these additives on the label. Talk about deception and danger; especially when they are targeting a product primarily consumed by children. I urge you to read more about this current push on The Weston A. Price Foundation website.
